Whole Step Modulation Tips
Does your song leader ever request a modulation on the last verse leading into the chorus for congregational singing?
I’ve put together a short video and free PDF to share several whole step up modulation tips.

Thank you for posting this! It was helpful. I can transpose to all major keys, but I can’t improvise as well with keys that have more flats and sharps. Is that what you were meaning by your weakness? Thanks again!
Love this
Yes! 😉 one of my weaknesses is playing hymns beyond three sharps or five flats.
Most hymns fit the range of keys I play in…thankfully! 🙂
In all the examples you gave, did the chorus naturally start on the 1 chord or did you have to put it there? If it was already there, is there a way I can substitute chords so that I can make the chorus start on the 1 chord even though the original song isn’t written that way? Thanks
Yes, the chorus examples naturally started with the I chord.
Ok, is there a way to make it work when the chorus doesn’t start on the 1 chord? Thanks.
Are you asking if there’s a way to make the modulation work if the chorus doesn’t start on the I chord?
Yes, I am. Can you substitute chords or something to make the chorus a 1 chord?
So sorry Joy for the delayed response. Just simply forgot to respond!
What hymn are you trying to do this with….so I can give a helpful answer. Thanks
We modulate down by 1/2 and whole steps.
Can you help?
