The Church Pianist: The Importance of Scales

Hmm…are scales THAT important?  It’s nothing more than finger exercises…right?!

How can the church pianist possibly benefit from playing scales?!

Do hymns even utilize scales?

In the next article… I will share why I think it’s important for every church pianist to master the scales.  While I’m at it…I’ll share ways to make scale playing more enjoyable.

Looking forward to this next article!

    Hi,
I just want you to know that I am so excited about how you are sharing and giving us the chance to play runs built into the music because I can play in general by ear I mean church songs. But even though I hear the run, I cannot play the run ….until I see this site and so now I am interested in songs arranged by you with the extras like Jesus Hold My Hand, When the Roll is called up yonder. Are you planning on doing any of these?Thank you,Murwyn

      Hi Murwyn!
Thanks for the excellent feedback! I’m thankful the examples of runs are helpful.
What ideas are you looking for in “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder”? Right hand fill-ins? or…just fill-ins in general for both hands?
