Free Piano Arrangement of The Old Rugged Cross

As promised….here’s a free piano arrangement of “The Old Rugged Cross”.  I wrote it in memory of Letha Snodgrass, my piano student and friend. Sorry I didn’t post this sooner for those who would have used it for Easter. I just haven’t been in the writing mood lately until now.

What a wonderful tribute to your friend. Thank you so much for this beautiful arrangement–I look forward to playing it! Just this week, I bought and downloaded your arrangement of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today,” and I’m looking forward to incorporating that into my church’s worship service tomorrow. I love the inspiration and push towards quality that your site gives me. Have a blessed Resurrection Day tomorrow!

A lovely piece by a lovely daughter! A wonderful expression of love and hope.

Thanks so much, Jenifer…it’s beautiful. I was so sorry to hear about your student. Loving sympathy and prayers for you and her family.

  5. Thank you so much for this beautiful arrangement. 🙂 You don’t know how much of a blessing your site really is. It’s so hard for pianists to find fun and interesting arrangements these days, unless you do it yourself, which can sometimes become boring. 🙂 Thank you again, you and this lady’s family are in my prayers.

Your arrangement of The Old Rugged Cross is beautiful. 🙂 I would also like to share with everyone our arrangements of some of our favorite hymns: http://www.pianomother.com/Christian_Piano_Sheet_Music.html. I hope you can use these sheet music when you play piano at church. God bless you!

    Dear Jenifer,

thank you very much for your inspired arrangement and for making it available. Here in Sydney Australia, I sometimes play for our local Anglican church and today I played your arrangement on the piano during communion, only the first verse/chorus in a gentle reflective style.

Ours is a ‘contemporary’ service, but sometimes I am a bit naughty and love to play beautiful pieces drawn from the past – many of us are starving for music with more depth and melody/musicality etc.

Knowing that you wrote it in memory of your young student, I was particularly sensitive to the piece and after the service had upwards of 20 individual comments, some who said that they had tears as they reflected while I played. My sister commented that the congregation was humming the tune – something that doesn’t happen often.

So you have inspired many this day, especially myself – there’s something deep and beautiful in the harmonies you have penned and no doubt Mr Bennard would feel the same way. Such a gorgeous and subtle blend of more modern harmonies with that beautiful tune.

    Many thanks indeed,
    David

    Dear Jennifer,

I came across your website when I was downloading music from Trenton Thomas’ website. I found your website and downloaded the Old Rugged Cross arrangement. It is very nice and I look forward to sharing it in church soon!

I have played your arrangements from the book, More About Jesus. I appreciate your arrangements especially because they are not so contemporary, I like “sweet” arrangements!!!

I am now 72, and I prefer the simpler, but nice arrangements like yours!!! The days of hard arrangements are gone for me!

Thank you again, please keep up the good arranging.

    Sincerely,

    I truly enjoyed this arrangement–am a mediocre pianist…and fake organist 😉
for our church..you do what you need to!

Took me some practice–but is so pretty, wanted to master it!
Thank you for your generosity <3
